Beeswax Food Wraps FAQ
How Can You Use Beeswax Wraps?
The possibilities are endless!
- Wrap a partial tomato or onion or green pepper or stick of butter or...
- Wrap a sandwich for your school or work lunch!
- Make a snack bag for that lunch or snack time
- Wrap that brick of cheese! (Isn't it frustrating that the plastic wrapper doesn't reseal after it has been opened??)
- Cover bowls of leftovers, or an open can of something
Are the Bread Bags Only for Bread?
Of course not! We like to grow our own leaf lettuce and pick as we go... but extras after dinner can go into the waxed bread bag and pop into the fridge. The lettuce won't dry out and since the waxed fabric breathes just a bit, it doesn't hold in all the moisture that promotes mold!
Can I Freeze Food in a Waxed Food Wrap?
Great question! We believe this is fine for something short term, but please remember the beeswaxed cotton breathes a bit, so your frozen food would dry out in the freezer.
Is the Beeswax Food Wrap Water Proof?
Ask us for a demonstration! The short answer is, yes, for a bit. But there is some permeability and eventually water will find its way through.
What Fabric Do We Use?
Our sewist is always on the hunt for cool looking 100% cotton fabric. However, we don't generally look for organic cotton, which would naturally cost more.
Why Don't We Use Organic Cotton?
Well, if that is important to you, our sewist would be glad to find that for you! However, we can't speak to what kind of inks have been used on any of the cottons. So to us, going the extra expense for organic cotton when we can't guarantee the inks used are also organic just doesn't make sense to us.
NOTE: Our sewist did find unbleached and undyed flannel for a family member with severe reactions to clothing dyes. Ask us about this!
What About the Flower Printed Muslin We Make Ourselves?
For this fabric, we use 100% unbleached muslin. All the flowers and prints used are carefully researched before use to ensure the plants are non-toxic to animals/humans.
What If I Don't See a Fabric Pattern I Like?
The short answer... challenge me to find whatever pattern you want! Our sewist loves looking for fabric to fit your kitchen theme or color!
